The Section for Education, Norwegian Museum Association

The Section for Education of the Norwegian Museum Association is open for all museum professionals in Norway who are involved in educational museum work. The section was established when the Norwegian Museum Education Association and the Norwegian Art- and Cultural-history museums merged into the newly established Norwegian Museum Association in 1996.

The Norwegian Museum Education Association was started by a group of enthusiasts in 1976. The aim was to work for developing public-oriented activities in museums. The association led study trips to museums in Norway and abroad, courses with themes tied to all aspects of museum public services and held an annual meeting with a seminar tied to our field. The journal Pedimus has been published regularly in the Norwegian language since 1976.

The present work of the Section for Education follows the same lines that the Norwegian Museum Education Association once did. Pedimus is now published as a quarterly journal on the section’s website. The open email list Museumsformidling has been set up for contact between members and others interested in our work. We also maintain a list of links to relevant organizations, publications and museum discussion groups in the Nordic countries as well as the rest of the world.
